Two Nigerian-Americans have reportedly won their respective positions in the ongoing United States general elections.
No fewer than nine Nigerian-Americans vied for different positions in the just concluded US election. Two has been declared winner already.
According to report, Oye Owolewa, who hails from Kwara State, Nigeria is aiming for a ‘shadow’ (non-voting) seat in the House of Representatives at the federal level.
The 31-year-old politician on Wednesday won the election by pulling 82.65% of the total votes cast, which represents 135,234 votes against Joyce Robinson-Paul, who had 15,541 votes, and Sohaer Syed with 12,846 votes.
Also, Esther Agbaje, has been elected into the Minnesota House of Representatives. She pulled a total of 17,396 votes, which represents 74.7% of the total ballots cast, defeating her closets opponent Alan Shilepsky who garnered 4,126 votes, which represents 17.7% of the total votes cast.
Nigeria you can’t win election outside your state. Even in your state, you can’t win if you don’t have a political godfather. The likes of Bola Tinubu and Co.
If only we could shun tribalism, ethnicity, religious affiliation, gender sentiment, social class segregation, inordinate affections, and focus on competency and our development, Nigeria will never remain the same. Things will turn around for good.
