Presently we have over 250,000 serving police officers in Nigeria.

I’ve hated police officers all my life. I’ve never been a fan of police. I dislike them with passion due to how cruel and unreasonable they are. But lately, I started wondering why a police man would kill or blackmail a fellow Nigerian over N50. So I began to surf the web, do some research from other sources for an answer..boom I stumbled on their monthly and annual salaries/revenue. Mehn, WTF is this! I said to myself.

You know one of the reasons why I dislike police is this. I have an uncle who is a Police officer. He has worked for years yet nothing to show for..when my father died, he sneaked into my dad’s room and stole all the money in there. Anyway, I’ll talk about this later.

To my observations, POOR PAYMENT is the reason why our security operatives are harsh on us. Jealousy, envy and frustrations are part of the reason why they extort money from us. Why they’re killing us unnecessarily. Why they doesn’t want to see any well doing young Nigerian. You cannot dress or smell nice..boom you’re a suspect and under arrest. And if you couldn’t bail yourself out, you’re a dead man.

But we are not responsible for their misfortune. They should channel the anger and frustrations to the federal government and not the struggling youth.

These guys are supposed to be our friend and protectors, but not at all. They are killing us instead. Should I blame them? NO but the clueless DO NOTHING federal government.

How could the FG pay an officer who’s likely a family man or woman, $4 per day and $1,700 per year. People they’re meant to protect the life and property of citizens? And one Senator is being paid millions of naira monthly for doing nothing? WTH!

You give people guns, send them to risks their lives and do a difficult job in a very dangerous society like ours with little pay? Come on, who does that! This is shameful and embarrassing. With this poor salary, police extortion and robbing of the people will never end.

Few days back, groups of police men were involved in a motor accident in Ondo state and over 5 died at the spot. How much is their monthly salary? 9000 naira.

Something need to be done about this. They deserve better. Okay check out Canada. On average, Canadian police officer earns over $100,000 per year. New recruit gets over $50,000 per year. That amount is way above the annual salary of the Inspector General of Nigerian Police.

BUT WAIT! Does it mean whenever they misbehave, their salaries would/Should be increased?

I’m not yet convinced that high payment can change the personality of some Nigerian police officers. Most of them are naturally wicked and born criminals. My uncle who is a police, is a perfect example. OLEBURUKU human being.

Dear Nigerian Police Officer,
Currently, Nigerian youth are massively on the streets protesting against police brutality in the country. Same YOU is being used to obstruct, intimidate and kill peaceful armless protesters. But one thing YOU failed to understand is that we are protesting against the ill treatment in Nigeria, which may also affect YOUR unborn child tomorrow. This protest is for every Nigerian irrespective of your profession, tribe, religion or political party.

To the FG, all we are saying is, #EndPoliceBrutality #EndSARS #EndSwat or keep SWAT on pending for now. #ReformPolice and increase their salaries. Nothing more, nothing less.
