Kaduna State Government has quarantined no fewer than 50 inter-state travellers.
The state’s Standing Committee on COVID-19 said yesterday that the 50 persons were quarantined at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camp for violating the prohibition of inter-state travel across the country.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication, Muyiwa Adekeye, said the culprits would be isolated there for 14 days to ensure that they were COVID-19-free.
Adekeye noted:
“The quarantine centre received its first set of 27 guests on Sunday, while 23 others were brought in on Monday, following the deployment of senior government officials to enforce the restriction of movement at various points of entry into the state.”He, however, warned that the state would no longer offer the option of quarantine for persons travelling illegally.
“Federal and state quarantine orders currently in force prohibit all non-essential travel. Therefore, all persons are expected to stay wherever they are until the restrictions are lifted.
“With the exception of persons on essential duty, anybody attempting to enter Kaduna will henceforth be compelled to return to their points of departure,”
Adekeye said.
The Special Adviser further said that out of the 92 active cases in the state, 15 patients had so far been discharged and four fatalities recorded. In another vein, Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, has volunteered to take vaccine for COVID-19, should any be found.
Gumi, in his Ramadan Tafsir video clip, noted that some people, especially from the North, were already resisting the vaccine for coronavirus, which was yet to be produced; hence he would lead the consumption of drugs produced to cure the disease.
“God willing, if vaccine for COVID-19 is found, they should start by testing it on me,”
He said, noting that Islam had been in the forefront of research.
He hinted that the production of COVID-19 vaccine would restore normalcy in the country and facilitate early return of Muslims to worshipping in the mosque.
Gumi had earlier called for the arrest and prosecution of any Muslim cleric preaching against the coronavirus vaccine. He urged Muslim clerics in the North to desist from telling people not to take the COVID-19 vaccine, if brought into the country.
