Former Cardiff manager, Neil Warnock, has said Odion Ighalo is not the right player for Manchester United.

Warnock, speaking with Sky Sports, blasted United for being “desperate” and described Ighalo as inconsistent.

The Red Devils have sealed a six-month loan deal for the Nigerian, who has previously played for Watford in the Premier League.

United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, was in the market for a striker after Marcus Rashford picked up a long term back injury.

Warnock claims he tried to sign Ighalo, 30, before and berated the Old Trafford side for not going for Southampton’s Danny Ings.

“I tried to sign Ighalo when I was at Cardiff. His salary was over six figures a week, £100,000, something like that. His agent tells you one thing, then the other.

“Manchester United won’t have that problem with the terms. I’m not sure he’s the right player for United. He’s not consistent and isn’t the right type of player.

“They want young players. Why didn’t they go for Danny Ings? He’s someone similar to Marcus Rashford. It’s desperation,” Warnock said.
