In 2020 the light of the silvery moon may have a whole new meaning for one Chinese city, when an illumination satellite referred to as an “artificial moon,” will be launched into space. Scientists hopes to hand a moon above the most popular city of western China, Chengdu and moon will be made by humans.
The moon made is designed accordingly to supplement the moon at night, it will shine brighter than the original moon. It will cast dusk like glow all around the city.
In diameter about 50 miles can will lighten up by the artificial moon, but according to illumination range that is so precise it can be controlled with in a few feet. We can say the moon is actually a satellite caring a huge space mirror and the light maybe affected by weather changes.
The moon can be turned off if there’s no need of it, the orb launching will work as a trail for the scientists to check it properly as if there are any problems then they will sort them out. The launch planning in Chengdu in just an indication of the launch in 2022 with 3 manmade moons that will be transported more than 300 miles above the surface of the Earth and by then, the three huge mirrors will divide the 360-degree orbital plane, illuminating an area for 24 hours continuously.
It isn’t a new concept of illuminating satellites as in 1993 Russia carried out an experiment which was called as “Banner” it launched a 65-foot-diameter satellite named Znamya. This was done just to compensate the costs of lights in the darker regions so that work days will become longer, it lighten up Earth just like a giant orbiting night light. It was in the sky just for few days as it caught fire in the atmosphere still the Russian scientists consider it a great achievement for them.
After this first launch a second large mirror launched right after the six years of the first one but unfortunately it ragged before being deployed and also burned up while reentering the earth’s atmosphere.
Earth’s predictable rhythm of day and night that is encoded in the DNA of all plants and animals and there are negative and even deadly effects on many creatures, birds, mammals, insects and plants, associated with artificial light at night.
The moon is almost 239,000 miles above the earth’s surface where it orbits Earth and in the whole solar system it is the fifth-largest natural satellite, and it is tidally locked, so only one side of the moon is ever seen from Earth.
